Royal Air Forces Association
Takes to the Streets of London
for the Lord Mayor's Show
It was an opportunity to bring a real awareness and recognition of the work we do to an audience of several thousand.
The Association trailer was towed around the route lined either side by Royal Air Forces Association standard bearers,
Royal Air Force personnel in different uniforms and Air Cadets - all representing the Royal Air Force family.
There were also six specially made costumes to represent some of the welfare work that the Association does.
These were:
RAF Contact House
Cup & Saucer
Internet Café
Storybook Wings
Microphone to represent the RAF Families Federation ‘raising the voice of the Royal Air Force’
Royal Air Forces Association Wings
The costumes brought a fun element to the entry and went down very well with the general public and the crowds were very supportive towards the standard bearers and RAF personnel. Thank you to all those who came along to support us!
One of the RAF Association Liaison Officers (RAFALO) who accompanied the trailer on its three mile route was Flight Lieutenant Dave McRitchie.
He said: “The common thread from all the RAFALOs who took part was that it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out and a privilege to be able to take part and support RAFA with a uniformed presence. As we moved through the streets it was great to hear so many favourable comments from the spectators and encouraging that so many people recognised RAFA.
