Pensions of Soldiers Killed in Action
Sergeant Matthew Telford of the Grenadier Guards was promoted to the rank in June 2009.
In November of that same year, Sergeant Telford was one of 5 British soldiers killed,
when a rogue Afghan policeman opened fire on them.
His wife and family will only receive a Corporals pension since he only held his rank of Sergeant for less than a year.
However, he was killed on operations by the enemy whilst wearing three stripes of a Sergeant on active service.
Please sign the petition below to support a change in the rules that deny a hero's widow the pension she deserves.

There are emails being sent out by contacts of yours that are not what they seem. DO NOT OPEN. The messages come with a number at the end in your mail box eg. Re: Important! .35.
If you open the mail it says to click on the message, this is the part that could be dangerous. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CLICK THE MESSAGE.
There is also another scam that I have received this morning.
We have been alerted to e-mail messages being sent containing a Trojan horse. The sender of the email is puporting to be from a delivery service usually DHL. Please beware - do not respond to these messages. Please see below, the detailed analysis given by Hoax Slayer.
DHL Notification Malware Email
Outline
Email purporting to be from international mail delivery service DHL claims that a parcel has been sent to the recipient. The message advises the recipient to open an attached file to view the parcel tracking number and access more information about the delivery.
Brief Analysis
The email is not from DHL. The attachment contains malware that, once installed, can connect to malicious website and download additional malware components.
Detailed Analysis
This crudely rendered malware message purports to be from international mail delivery service DHL. The message notifies the recipient that a parcel has been sent to his or her address and is expected to arrive within seven business days. It advises the recipient to open an attached file to retrieve a tracking number for the parcel along with more information about the delivery.
However, the email is certainly not from DHL and the attachment does not contain delivery information. Instead, the attachment harbours malware. Opening the attachment can install a trojan that can subsequently make connections to malicious websites and download additional malware modules. The malware can collect information from the infected computer and relay it back to Internet criminals.
Many recipients will quickly suspect that the message is not from DHL because of the very poor spelling and grammar <http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2011/03/08/sloppy-spelling-scuppers-dhl-malware-spam-attack/>. Moreover, DHL is very unlikely to contact customers via an unsolicited, generic email that contains delivery information in an attached file. DHL has been regularly targeted in the past by criminals intent on distributing malware. The names of other well-known delivery companies, including UPS <http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ups-malware.shtml> and FedEx <http://www.hoax-slayer.com/fake-fedex-invoice-malware.shtml> have also been repeatedly used by malware distributors. Another recent malware attack consisted of emails purporting to be from Post Express <http://www.hoax-slayer.com/post-express-malware-emails.shtml>.

Sat Nav Advice
from NHW Torrevieja
It is well known advice that if you have a Sat Nav
in your car that you should take it with you when you park up do not hide it in the vehicle
Most importantly DO NOT PUT YOUR EXACT HOME OR HOLIDAY ADDRESS
into the device i.e. house number and road name for example. If you do happen to have your Sat Nav stolen from your car or person all the thief has to do is switch it on, go to home address, he is guided there and he knows you are
not in! If you are unsure how to get back home, especially if you are renting a property for a holiday, put in an address close by such as a restaurant or the Police Station etc.
Do not programme in someone elses home
address for obvious reasons.
Conmen look through Microsoft 'Windows'
January 2012
Unfortunately, conmen working to dupe Costa Blanca expats out of their money don’t fly south for the winter, so we have a timely warning from Orihuela Costa Neighbourhood Watch about a convincing scam they have been made aware of.
Beware of telephone calls from Windows
A number of people on the Orihuela Costa have received a telephone call from a lady speaking on behalf of Windows. The call appears to come from a UK based number; the number has been different on some occasions, as has the caller. The victim is informed that his/her computer is sending out a large number of emails, which is causing a problem for the Windows systems. The caller asks for details to enable her to enter the computer in question and put things right. The caller is extremely persistent and calls back on a number of occasions especially if the receiver sounds hesitant.
On one occasion, details were given and then a demand was made for €350 for work done. When this was refused a further demand was made for €1000 to cover contamination to Windows equipment which was again refused.
Enquiries made by police in the UK reveal that this is a prevalent scam there. The telephone access can be arranged in the UK and scammers will probably have a “Local Look” facility which can be used from anywhere in the world. If access is gained to your computer, computer software called “Malware” can be installed onto the computer giving access to whatever is on the computer including bank and other details.
It is not usual for Windows to contact individual clients by phone.
Junkmail
Neighbourhood Watch also advises CoastRider readers not to open e-mails with just a link or with the message in large type and in blue reading “CHECK HERE TO READ THIS MESSAGE” even if you know the sender. To do so gives access to contact lists enabling messages to be intercepted
WHEN SENDING E MAILS TO MORE THAN 1 PERSON USE BCC.
You will see on the top of the e mail on the left it says To also on the top of the e mail you will see cc (carbon copy) this means that all the addresses are shown. Below it you will see bcc ( blank carbon copy) which means only the names can be seen not the email addresses.
You will safeguard all the addresses being copied if you or they are hacked into it makes sense to use it

Fallen soldiers' pension rights changed after campaign Advertisement and the petition to the Government
Cheryl Telford explains the reasons behind her campaign to change the rules
Relatives of soldiers killed while serving in acting roles will now receive their full pension for that rank, the Ministry of Defence has said.
Pensions will be paid on the basis of their acting rank, regardless of how long they had been serving in that position
It comes after a campaign by the relatives of Sgt Matthew Telford from Grimsby who was killed in Afghanistan. They had pressed for his pension to be reflected by his rank when he died.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed on Friday that Sgt Telford's family and those of two others servicemen would receive a £20,000 lump sum, reflective of a sergeant's pension.
'Unjust rule'
Under previous legislation, death benefits were calculated on the "substantive rank held at the date of death", unless the individual had been in an acting rank for at least a year.
But a Ministry of Defence spokesman said as a result of Sgt Telford's case, death benefits from 3 January would be paid "on the basis of acting rank".
Sgt Matthew Telford, of Scartho, was one of five soldiers shot dead in Afghanistan by a rogue Afghan policeman.
“It wasn't ever about the money, it was about the recognition of his rank ”
Cheryl Telford
Sgt Telford's mother
Since his death, the widow, mother and other relatives of the father-of-two have campaigned for his pension rights to be based on his acting sergeant status, not that of a corporal.
The Ministry of Defence said the families were receiving the lump sum under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, as the new rules were not yet in place.
Sgt Telford's mother, Cheryl, welcomed the change.
She told BBC Look North: "I am obviously very pleased that the MoD have listened to our concerns and recognised that the 12-month rule is unjust.
'Remarkable' support
"We felt that service personnel are killed in action, they should be recognised for the rank they held, and were proud to hold at the time of their death."
Mrs Telford said the family had received remarkable support from the public.
It is quite refreshing to know that on this occasion people have listened and recognised the importance of what we were trying to achieve.
"It wasn't ever about the money, it was about the recognition of his rank.
"He was buried in his gold sergeant's uniform... There was some disparity there that I felt was unjust."
