On Saturday afternoon the streets from the Virgin del Carmen Cultural Centre, all the way to the Conception Church in the main square of Torrevieja was closed to traffic, in preparation for the hundreds of people presenting flowers to the church.
A tradition of the Patronal Festival 40 Groups or Organisations are invited to present flowers to the church bearing the name of Torrevieja's Patron Saint the Inmaculada Concepcion.
The Royal Air Forces Association along with the Royal British Legion, The Royal Navy Association and The Royal Marines Association members, marched together with the Spanish National Flag , the Union Jack and the four Branch Standards leading .
The procession began at 5pm and lasted for over two and a half hours as groups as diverse ASILA , the Latin America Association, the Third Age,Asturian,Galican Societies, Plus other expat Organisations lined up in the holding area to await their turn to start. ( The time delays were due to the fact that every group has to stop at the church to hand over their flowers, so the parade was a stop/start situation.) Hundreds of people lined the route clapping as we slowly marched passed on our way to the main square and the church. As we entered the Square to stop at the steps of the church, with the crowds cheering and applauding us as we handed our Floral Tributes to The Parish Priest ofTorrevieja Don Manuel Martinez Rocomora along with his staff accepted them. We then marched off with the clapping and cheering still ringing in our ears.

My own personal thoughts were :- An enjoyable event to take part in. Great to see the Branch supporting the local community, it would have been nice if more of our members supported these events, having said that we did out number all the other branch associations together by two to one.
